Spring has sprung and we all know that marketing your home on the outside adds value. Before the for-sale sign goes up, take a moment and evaluate your curb appeal. Put yourself in the place of a prospective buyer. Is my home welcoming? While it’s important to stage the inside of a home, quite often though the outside is forgotten. Marketing your outdoor space adds value and a lifestyle that appeals to the masses.
So how should you go about sprucing up your outdoor space before potential buyers come knocking at your door?
1. Say Goodbye to Santa
Christmas decorations are great when it’s actually Christmas. When it’s pushing Easter, or even Mother’s day, maybe not so much. Life gets busy, and if the weather has particularly been awful during the winter months, it’s easy to forget to take down the lights or take the ornaments off of trees. If you’re selling your home this spring though, it’s not a cute look to have Santa and the Easter Bunny duelling for space on the front lawn.
2. Pick out some Plants
We don’t mean having your friends come over during the open house to gush about how AMAZING this property is. We mean actual plants. Like the flowers and greenery at your local garden centre. Pro-tip: Yellow is a great colour to put buyers in the mood to purchase- so buying some yellow flowers might be in your best interest! 3. Wash the Windows
This is such a small thing, but make sure to wash the inside and outside of your windows. Especially since you probably haven’t opened them since last summer. It just gives an overall brighter look to your home and makes your home look well kept.
4. Rent a Pressure Washer
Salting and sanding efforts from the wintertime can do a number on the look of your driveway and your sidewalks. Plus a year or more’s worth of grime can easily be built up on your siding or bricks, so renting a pressure washer to get some of that excess dirt, sand, salt and other detritus off of your house and driveway can make a real difference.
5. Make sure visitors can read your house number clearly!
If people are coming to see your house, they’ll need to make sure they’re going to the right address. This is where having clearly displayed house numbers will come in handy. Typically house numbers should be in a spot that is well lit and not shaded and be at least 4 inches tall to be seen from the street.
Small tasks like these can really change the look of your home and freshen it up with the change of the season. Then all you have to do is think about is packing and moving, which we at Mike the Mover have got you covered for. Give us a call today for your free quote!
